A loan helped to buy different varieties of cereal from local farmers and sell them to her customers.

Janeth's story

Janeth was born in one of the poorest families in Bomet, Kenya, but her story of success rings differently in everyone’s mind. She was attracted to farming after observing her parents making profits after they sold their produce. In fact, she discovered that they were using the proceeds from farming to pay school fees for her siblings and her. She has been farming for the last five years. In her village, she practices mixed farming. The income she makes from selling milk and eggs is used to meet the basic needs of her household. Though she has gathered much experience in this business, she is not comfortable with the little amount she earns since she is the only breadwinner in her household.

Janeth enjoys the profits she gets from farming. However, due to rising cost of living, she needs to boost her income through buying different varieties of cereal from local farmers and selling them to her customers at the local market. Through this engagement, she will earn a commission that she intends to use to repay the loan and elevate her standard of living.

This loan is an opportunity that she never got before. Her irregular income and lack of collateral security were the main drawbacks limiting her from accessing loans in commercial banks. Thanks to Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva, this loan will change the life of Janeth's family and her.
