Azara is the one holding a sheep in the photo. She is 38 years old and the group's leader. She is a Malian national, married to a farmer and the mother of four children, two of whom are in school. Azara has never attended school. She buys her sheep at the nearby markets, raises them for some time and later resells with a mark-up at local market, in order to help her husband. She has been in this business for seven years.

Azara s applying for her sixth loan to buy sheep and animal feed for them in order to feed her sheep to resell in order to earn a revenue of 50,000 francs (CFA). This will allow Azara to pay for her children's school fees, healthcare and clothing. In the future she would like to have a herd of small livestock for her children.
