Merla's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay for essential food items to sell.

Merla's story

Merla's general store has greatly benefited from Kiva's program of supporting small businesswomen like her. Her being hardworking pays off, as she earns enough to put food on their table and cover their daily household needs.

In order to remain competitive, she needs to offer a wide selection of packaged food and household items. In view of this, she hopes to access a loan to buy more quantities of grocery items like rice, coffee, soda, rice noodles, laundry products, and toiletries.

Merla dreams to one day build a big grocery store and have a more comfortable life in her senior years. Every week, she meets up with her fellowship group* to share stories of her work and to draw strength and inspiration from the Word of God which she studies.

*All Center for Community Transformation (CCT) community partners/clients are organized into fellowship groups, each composed of 15 to 30 community partners, that gather each week to study the Word of God, build social capital and repay microfinance loans.
