San Jose Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to reforest pine forests in order to produce resin.

San Jose Group's story

Rogelio, Javier and Juan are part of a group of shareholders of a common land in the town of San José de Cañas, municipality of Ario de Rosales in Michoacán, México. They all work in agriculture and have known the activity of harvesting resin since they were kids. They learned it from their parents and grandparents. They provide financial support to their families and they are looking to improve their future. For that reason, they decided to plant resin pines with Kiva’s support in the years 2014 and 2015.

Their dream of producing resin is closer and closer to become a reality and it starts when the trees are 10 years old and they continue producing resin and incomes for the next 70 years. To know that there are people around the world willing to help them in their project makes them feel happy, and they would like to let them know that they will put a lot of effort in their work along with their families.

In their opinion, the resin supports the environment since it helps to conserve the vegetation of the forests. For them, the pines are life. Rogelio, Javier and Juan need this loan to invest in the maintenance of their “resin garden”. They need to remove weeds, control plagues, prune and thin. They are enthusiastic and grateful for the support to get their families ahead with the noble profession of harvesting resin, which asserts their age-old cultural practices.
