Kadiatu's Lady Traders Group

Makeni, Northern Province, Sierra Leone / Food

Kadiatu's Lady Traders Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy organic rice from a local producer in Makeni, supporting sustainable local farmers while scaling up each member's business.

Kadiatu's Lady Traders Group's story

Kadiatu B (first from the left) is a vibrant mother of four based in Makeni, Sierra Leone. She lost her business, after over 11 years of working successfully, during the country's recent Ebola crisis.

In response, Kadiatu reached out to fellow experienced traders in the Makeni area and has created a strong group of women with excellent trading skills.

Many of them still maintain a connection with past customers, and they all are united in their desire to restart and rebuild.

A Kiva loan will enable this exceptional, hard-working group of women to get back on their feet and back to business.

Kadiatu's Lady Traders are also committed to buying locally produced, rather than imported, rice to support local farmers.

The group’s Kiva loan will therefore be used to purchase locally produced rice from Makeni to re-stock and rebuild the members’ businesses.
