Amor De Dios Group's story

Maria is 42 years old, a single mother of a school-age son. She makes a living with her shawl-making business. She works in the rural area of Batallas located on the shores of the sacred Lake Titicaca. Maria and her son live in their own house. She is on the left in the picture, wearing sky blue pollera dress and shawl.

Due to the need to improve her business, she formed a group of entrepreneurs who own businesses such as selling fish, cheese and milk, second-hand clothes, cattle, electrical items, and in construction service. Maria weaves women’s alpaca shawls. It is used to cover the back to keep warm. She has a handloom outside of her house. She buys wool directly from the producers and she washes, dyes, and bastes. She sells twice a week at local fairs and also has wholesale customers who buy to resell in the city. The advantage is that she sells all products but the problem is to supply her business. Her dream is to produce wholesale and she wants to have work material at all times.

Maria requests a loan to buy wholesale camelid wool. It is her first loan from the institution in 2 years in the business. This will enable her to weave more shawls and to cover the household expenses.
