A loan helped To buy more vegetables and sacks of Irish potatoes.

Hadjah's story

Hadjah has been in business for 15 years and, besides a vegetable business, she sells Irish potatoes. She works seven days a week and gets 20 customers a day. She incurs extra expenses transporting to and from suppliers in the Owino market (one of the busiest markets in Uganda). The major challenges she faces are transport costs and seasonality.

Hadjah is a 40-year-old married woman with six children between the ages of 10 and 18 years. She lives and works in a semi-urban area on the outskirts of Kampala. All her children go to school. Hadjah rents a one-room house where she lives with seven people. There is no electricity or piped water in her home. The family gets three meals a day.

Hadjah has been with MCDT for five years, now on her fifteenth loan working with the same group mates. She wants to use this loan to buy more vegetables and sacks of Irish potatoes. Hadjah's aspiration is seeing her business grow bigger and owning a permanent business premises.
