Judith's Group's story

Judith's Group is comprised of two hard-working women. Judith is 19 years old and lives in the town of Kaliro in the region of Uganda. She is married and has one child. For the past year, Judith has been working hard to manage her restaurant, which sells cooked food like matooke and rice.

To help expand her business, Judith has requested a share of 1,200,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy bigger sauce pans for cooking. This will help Judith to generate greater profits so she will be in a position to provide basic needs at home and to support her kid in buying new clothes. Judith hopes that in the future she will be able to have a restaurant in a bigger trading center and her own farm for food growth.

Judith is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
