Tornasol Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to buy an industrial sewing machine because there is a high demand for her textiles.

Tornasol Group's story

The Trust Bank of Friendship Bridge "Tornasol" was formed by 9 Mayan K'iche ladies, originally from Totonicapán, who are happily starting their first loan cycle with Kiva. They will use the funds for their small businesses that include animal husbandry, traditional textile fabrication and carpentry businesses, as well as the sales of leather sandals & flowers. The women meet monthly with a Facilitator from Friendship Bridge to make payments on their loans & participate in educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans & education. Topics are relevant to their lives & are based on an aspect of 4 main subjects: business, family, health and women.

Laura, the 38 year old Secretary of the group, has a teaching certificate. She is married & the mother of 2 children (7 and 12) who are enrolled in the first & fifth grades. Laura has a traditional textile business & makes ornate colorful aprons called “delantales” & woven wrap around skirts called “cortes” She also raises chickens for extra income. Because there is a high demand for her textiles, Laura is requesting a loan to buy an industrial sewing machine. She will earmark some of her income for the continuing education of her children as she wants them to have a successful future.

Thank you, Kiva investors, for believing in Laura & her friends! Your generosity is much appreciated!
