A loan helped to buy bags of drinking water and other supplies to run her restaurant.

Confiance Group's story

Sanè is the woman sitting on the left in the picture. She is holding a bag of packets of drinking water. Sanè comes from Mali and runs a restaurant. She is thirty-six years old and mother to two children aged twenty-three and twenty-one years old, both of them have attended school.

Several years ago, Sané separated from her husband. She left school in the seventh grade to help her aunt run her restaurant business and she has worked in this business ever since. Sanè works with the field partner RMCR to have the funds necessary to continue her restaurant. This loan will be used to buy drinking water, various food products and other drinks.

Sané has noticed that her customers buy a lot of drinking water so she has entered into a partnership with a local producer. Each week the producer sends her a van of water sachets and she sells them on a retail and semi-wholesale basis. Sanè would like to build a depot so she can store more water. Her supplies come from Bamako and she sells them in her neighbourhood, making a profit of 50,000 francs CFA a month. She knows that selling drinking water is very profitable and because the quality does not deteriorate, she loses very little stock.
