Kiran's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to pay the second year of a BBA degree.

Kiran's story

Kiran is a Wedu ‘Rising Star’, selected for her leadership potential and keen desire to be a change-maker in her community. This is her story:

I was born in Kathmandu, and completed my schooling there. My father, formerly a trekking guide, had to seek work overseas for financial reasons, following the massive earthquake. My mum is an entrepreneur running her own small business.

I have always been interested in business, and even at 12 years old was exposed to financial related matters. I chose to study management and am keen to be an entrepreneur, with the freedom to use my ideas and creativity. I am currently doing my BBA at the University of Kathmandu. This request for FISA financing through Kiva is to pay my fees for my 2nd year.

Volunteering with the Himalayan Climate Initiative, I taught and interacted extensively with youth and adults involved in informal garbage collection. I realised it is not a lack of skills that holds many of them back, but a lack of opportunity. As an entrepreneur, I will give others a chance to develop their talents as well. I do not want to see my country’s people being forced to have to work overseas.

The best aspect of Wedu’s Leadership Development is the Mentorship programme, which includes systematic goal setting, with my Mentor’s guidance. This led me to top my class in my 1st year, and I hope to grow as a leader and innovator.

My hobby is to write poetry in English, and I intend to continue to express myself in this way.
