Ernest's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to obtain a solar water pump for his farm.

Ernest's story

Ernest is a 48-year-old smallholder farmer based in Chibombo district in the Central Province of Zambia. Ernest has been farming for over seven years. He grows maize and rears goats. However, like most smallholder farmers in the area, Ernest uses handheld buckets to draw water from a shallow well to irrigate his crops and to provide drinking water for his animals.

Ernest is asking for a loan in order to obtain a solar submersible water pump. Having a solar water pump installed on his farm will reduce the time and amount of labour required to provide water for his animals and for irrigation. An improved water supply will also improve the quality of his crops and the health of his goats, which in turn will allow him to sell them at a more favourable price.

Rent-To-Own is keen on testing out new irrigation technologies that are not widely available on the Zambian market, such as solar water pumps. Rent-To-Own will deliver and install the pump on Ernest’s farm and train him on how to properly use and maintain it.
