A loan helped to increase the size of her chicken batches.

Discovery Group's story

Discovery is a name which they gave to their group after they identified new lucrative markets for their chicken produce. The ladies managed to get a long term contract with butcheries in their community to supply chickens weekly, and are meeting this through giving each other a chance to supply as they are all in poultry businesses.

Milika (middle in the photo) is a married woman aged 42 years. Her husband is working for a local municipality as a general hand. They are a family of four. She has two children and both of them are still going to school. She is based in Zvimba, Zimbabwe.

Milika has been in the poultry business for the past 18 months. She started her business with a small batch of 50 chickens. Recently, her business has been growing so rapidly, managing about 200 birds in different stages. Her fowl runs’ carrying capacity is 200 to 300 birds. The fowl run is located at her home for the sake of security and close monitoring.

The other two members of the group are Abigirl and Nomazwazevelo. They have known each other for the past three years. Besides staying in the same neighborhood, the group members are also friends. Their friendship is built on the fact that they are women who dream big. The other group members are also in the poultry business.

Milika wants to increase the size of her chicken batches with the loan that she got from Thrive, so that she can meet her demand.
