Fatoumata's Group's story

The 'banc villageois' of which this group of eight women is a part was inaugurated in May 2001. The women are active mainly in the commerce of general goods. Ms. Banna, who is at the right in the photo with a hand raised, is the group's representative. She is 59, married, and the mother of five children, including three girls. And she has been operating her business for several years.

With her new loan, she intends pay for ten 50-kg sacks of peanuts and fifty 5-kg pails of peanut butter she will resell in her home and at the market. The profits will be used to help out her husband to cover day-to-day expenses and the children's school fees and healthcare.
