Keri Group's story

Verónica is 39 years old. She is the leader of an indigenous community group that planted trees with Kiva support in 2014 and planted again with their own resources in 2016. Their purpose is to restore degraded lands. They intend to generate income by harvesting resin from native pine tree plantings. Their dream of producing resin is getting closer and closer to coming true. It begins when the trees are 10 years old, and they continue to produce resin and income for the next 70 years. This also contributes to forest conservation, which is very important for their community.

Verónica is married to Martin. They work in agriculture to support a family of six children who are in school. The group led by Verónica belong to the Purépecha ethnic group, and they live in the community of Cherán Atzicurín in Michoacán, México. Their success is life-changing for their families and future generations.

Verónica and her group need a loan to invest in maintaining their resin plantations by weeding, pest control, pruning, and thinning. They are enthusiastic, and they appreciate the support for providing for their families through the noble trade of resin collector that affirms their ancestral cultural practices.
