Maria Del Transito's story

María is a female head of household, age 48. She lives with her two minor children. Due to lack of opportunity, she attended school only up to ninth grade.

She began her working life at age 15, working in domestic services in the city of Bucaramanga. At age 22, she became pregnant, and the father of the baby did not take responsibility. At that time, she heard about the plains town of Tame, and decided to go there to try her luck. There she began to work selling clothing, shoes, and accessories, She fell in love again and had a child, however her husband was assassinated, which complicated her life and left her with two children to provide for on her own.

Her life has not been easy, however María stands up for herself and fights to build a future. Now she is making and selling food (empanadas, tamales), and she also has some rented land where, with great effort, she planted two hectares of plantain. However, she needs to mulch and get control of pests, for which she need "friendly hands" to come to her aid.

Her dream is to see her children become good people, professionals who will have a positive effect on their community.
