Unidos Venceremos 1 Group's story

Arturo is the group coordinator of the solidarity group Unidos Venceremos (together we succeed) based in the rural area surrounding La Romana, an area where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable at best. Here he makes his home with his wife and three teenage children in a modest home of wooden walls and a tin roof. He came to Esperanza a year and a half ago, because he felt that our interest rates and services were significantly lower than the moneylenders in his neighborhood. He has successfully completed two loan cycles with Esperanza and is now requesting his third loan. With this loan he intends to purchase more clothing in bulk, which will cost less and allow him to gain more profits. This will support his business of selling clothing for adults from his home, a trade which he has been successfully plying for over a year now. He will use the profits from his business, which is his family's primary source of income, to purchase better food and school supplies for the children, to paint his house (an important first line defense against termites and weather) and if there is some money left over he would like to purchase a television for his family to enjoy (when there is power of course). His long term goal is to continue growing his business and provide a stable income in the future. He thanks you all for your support.
