Melita's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to develop a full line of artisan products, launch them into the international market, and increase job opportunities for artisans in Cambodia.

Melita's story

Melita began working with artisans throughout Cambodia in 2005, after discovering small weaving and ceramics workshops in remote areas of the country. These artisans, who are holding on to the last threads of knowledge of traditional craftsmanship, were unable to earn a living wage for their work. An increasing number of master artisans were being forced to give up their craft in exchange for unskilled work in dangerous garment factories or construction sites. These concerns became a call to action for Melita, who created a business showcasing the incredible work of these artisans. Melita is working with 40 artisans throughout Cambodia to promote their craftsmanship globally, and create sustainable and meaningful livelihoods. Melita has designed one ceramics and homewares collection which has received interest from international retailers and media outlets. A loan of $8,000 will allow Melita to further develop this line of artisan products and create a collection large enough for international markets. This loan will provide steady employment for 40 artisan workers and create new job opportunities for emerging artisans in Cambodia, while celebrating local traditions and exquisite craftsmanship.
