A loan helped to purchase a machine to produce soaps inside a refugee camp.

Betty's story

Betty is a 48 year old woman with a small business and a big heart. Her company, Green Label Hygiene Products, makes soaps (bar and liquid), detergents, and perfumes. While not a refugee herself, Betty wants to launch a new production line to help Congolese refugees living in Rwanda earn employment and income through soap making. Betty needs 4,200,000 Rwandan Francs to purchase a soap press and inputs so that she can open a small production center in Gihembe Refugee Camp in Northern Rwanda. With these supplies, Betty can train and employee refugees inside the camp to make soap. These products will primarily be sold to other refugees inside the camp, and any extra will be sold at the market in the local community. Small soap production for a refugee market isn't a lucrative business, but Betty knows that this opportunity offers so much more. It brings training, job creation, and investment into an often forgotten community. It also offers the refugee employees increased independence, dignity, and a chance to contribute meaningfully to their community.
