Estrellas De Joyabaj Group's story

The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Estrellas De Joyabaj”, composed of 10 ladies who call a rural area in the state/department of Quiche their home, is happily beginning their first loan cycle with Kiva. They have various businesses, including the sales of delicious traditional snacks, animal husbandry (chickens, pigs), fabrication/sales of colorful traditional textiles, and sales of bed mattresses. The women benefit greatly from their monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans and education. Since they have little or no formal education, it is tremendously beneficial for them to learn about effective business practices, how to care for their families best (nutrition, health, hygiene) and how to empower themselves (women’s rights, self esteem).

The Secretary of the Trust Bank is 26-year-old Victoria, who is a married mother of four children, ages 5-12. She has a first grade education. Victoria realizes the tremendous value of education and has worked hard so that three of her children attend school. Together with her husband, Victoria has a furniture business and also sells mattresses for beds. Because there is a high demand for the mattresses, Victoria is requesting a loan to buy fabric and cotton at the wholesale level. She wants the business to be successful to raise the standard of living for her family.

In providing the funding for these loans, Kiva investors are held in very high esteem. Thank you Kiva investors for your kindness and generosity!
