Jema's story

Jema operates a fruit and vegetable vending business in their rural village of South Caronsi, Peñablanca, Cagayan. She roams around their village to sell her merchandise. From the business, Jema is able to generate an income of PHP1, 000 a week which is very beneficial in providing the daily needs of her family and give the educational needs of her children. For the continuous improvement of her enterprise, she would like to borrow a loan of PHP12,000 from the KIVA lenders. She is hoping that her loan will be granted for it will really help to achieve her goals. Jema is 22 years old and she is already married to Jessie who assisted her in planting different kinds of vegetables in their farm that she sells after harvest. Her husband sometimes works as a carpenter in their village to earn additional income. The couple is blessed with two children: James - 5 years old and Jessie Jr. is one year old. Jema is willing to extend help to others because she always believes that “it is better to give than to receive”.
