Remember Me #1 Group's story

Remember Me #1 is a group of 5 borrowers, led by Mamakor F., living in Kolahu, Lofa County, Liberia. Mamakor is 31, married, and has two children, ages 5 to 8; both are in school. Mamaker also cares for 2 children orphaned in the war. Mamakor was unable to attend school although she enjoyed it, because the cultural norm was for girls to rely on their husbands to provide, and therefore school was considered unnecessary. She lives in remote Kolahu city in rural Lofa county, the breadbasket of Liberia. Mamakor’s business is retail clothing, including slippers, shirts, pants, etc which she buys wholesale from nearby Guinea and sells in a temporary market stall alongside approximately 100 other vendors of various trades. She has run her business for 6 years and is successful because her customers like her personality and work ethic. She’s taking the loan to increase her inventory of slippers and pants, which sell well in the rainy season. Her dream is to grow her business so she can one day have the biggest table in the market. With the profits from her business Mamakor dreams of building her own house.
