A loan helped to restock maize.

Subaru Group's story

Dorothy is a 35 year old mother of three children. She is in the business of buying and selling maize. She and her fellow group members make up the Subaru group; they are all based in a village in Goromonzi. The significance of Dorothy’s business is that she sells maize, which is used to make Zimbabwe’s staple food, sadza. She sources her maize from farmers in and around Goromonzi.

One of the challenges that she faces is to do with competition as there are many other people selling maize in her area. This did not discourage Dorothy as her clientele base is ever increasing. Her husband is currently unemployed that leaves her to take care of their three sons. She has to ensure that her children have food on the tables and clothes on their backs. She used her loan to restock maize.
