Saraphina's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to increase her cash on hand in her start-up business so that she can provide financial services to her unbanked community and generate an income to support her family.

Saraphina's story

Saraphina is a single mother of three children from Lusaka. Due to lack of employment opportunities in Zambia, she moved to South Africa and worked there for seven years to raise her children and provide for their needs. Unfortunately, she had to return to Zambia due to unforeseen circumstances and found herself unemployed again. It has been very hard to take care of three children as a single parent with no source of income. Saraphina then heard of Zoona and that it empowers people like her to become entrepreneurs. She signed up to become a Zoona mobile transactions agent.

Saraphina offers money transfer services and a savings facility via the Zoona platform, all accessed through her phone. She has literally brought banking closer to her community. Saraphina says her business will impact the community greatly and that she hopes to spread her wings across the nation, opening more outlets to serve people and creating employment opportunities for the youth. With a loan from Kiva, she plans to invest in her float and cash on hand to increase her capacity to serve more of the community and facilitate growth.

Her big dream is to make a significant change toward reducing the high rates of unemployment by expanding and employing unemployed youth. For now, her business is helping her take care of her children's basic needs.
