Corazon De Maria Group's story

The Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Corazon De Maria” is made up of 10 visionary women who want to build better futures for their families. They live in the rural Central Highlands of Chimaltenango, Guatemala. Most have a primary school education and all have productive businesses selling clothes or delicious tortillas. Some have convenience stores. They are happy to begin their 1st Kiva loan cycle.
Elva, who is 56 years old and only has a 2nd grade education, is the group's Treasurer. She is a widow, with 4 children over the age of 26. Unfortunately, she was only able to send them to school through the 9th grade, because education in Guatemala is very expensive. Elva has a convenience store where she sells a variety of food products, along with clothing & kitchen containers. She is requesting a loan to buy soft drinks, biscuits, sugar, pasta, rice, as wells as some pots and pans.
Elva is motivated to succeed and will be able to with access to the monthly meetings that are a part of the Friendship Bridge education + loans program "Microcredit Plus." Each month her knowledge will grow as she participates with a facilitator focusing on a relevant topic in 4 key areas: family, women, health and business. The facilitator uses games, diagrams and pictures to convey information like controlling expenses, saving, or investing. Elva is very grateful for her new knowledge & for the loan support. Thank you Kiva for your generosity & kindness!
