Auwalu's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase improved farm inputs that will increase farm yield.

Auwalu's story

Auwalu, a Babban Gona maize farmer, is married and lives in a modest mud house with his family in Danju Village. Auwalu is a meticulous farmer who has invested time and resources on his farm. Like every parent, he hopes to send his children to better schools.

Thanks to the previous loans that he got from Kiva, he was able to buy additional farmland. He decided to apply for another loan to have access to high-quality seeds that are locally adapted and widely accepted in his local community. He will also have the recommended pesticides and fertilizers based on the results of his field assessment. These inputs will enable him to optimize his yield, up to 3.8 metric tonnes per hectare (two times the national average in Nigeria). This will not only increase his income earnings 2.8 times the national average but also ensures that Auwalu can continue to provide for his family.

Auwalu looks forward to using his additional income to buy more farmland and recalls buying additional farmland as his best memory as a Babban Gona member. Auwalu looks forward to a brighter future with Babban Gona as he too has joined the fight against poverty.
