Orlandina's story

Orlandina is a fighting woman, mother and grandmother, head of household. She is 61 years old. For lack of opportunities she could only study until the third grade of school. Currently she lives with her 21-year-old daughter and her two grandchildren who are 12 and 10 years old.

Orlandina has been a very strong woman as she has personally had to live through the effects of violence. In 2002 they murdered her husband on the San Salvador path, from where she had to move to the municipal urban area where she started from scratch since she had to leave everything behind.

Orlandina started making and selling traditional meals of Llano Araucano, selling tamales, hayacas [tamale made from corn flour with chicken or beef], and tungos de arroz [tamale with a rice dough wrapped in banana leaves], among other products. Thus she managed to overcome the situation and get ahead.

But in 2015 she went through another bad life experience. Once again violence took her daughter, by murder. Gasping for breath but with the responsibility of two grandchildren, Orlandina continued forward. She spent her working capital and it has not been easy to recover. That is why today she wants to turn to helping hands to support her with working capital to increase her production of packets of rice to generate more income and thus improve the quality of life of her grandchildren. Orlandina dreams of seeing her grandchildren become professionals.
