Total loan: $750

Kaduna, KD, Nigeria / Agriculture

Magaji's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy improved maize seeds and other farm inputs that will increase Magaji's farm's yield.

Magaji's story

Magaji, a maize farmer from Jajin Dan Gana village, has been a Babban Gona farmer for a season. He has a child who aspires to be a doctor in the future.

Previously, Magaji and his family were only able to eat two meals a day despite toiling for several hours on the farm. However, as a Babban Gona member and with a loan of 234,430 NGN he will be provided with higher-yielding maize seeds that are locally adapted and are widely accepted in his community. He will also receive the recommended pesticides and fertilizers based on the results of his field assessment. This will enable him to optimize his yield, where he can attain yields of up to 3.8 metric tons per hectare, twice the national average in Nigeria.

This season Magaji will use the income generated from his maize sales to buy a tractor. His greatest memory as a Babban Gona farmer was when he sent his child to a better school because of the loan he got in the past. Magaji is confident that with Kiva’s field partner Babban Gona his future is secure and he will have many more great memories and amazing accomplishments together with his family.
