Jaime's story

Schola makes it easy for parents and students to find and enroll in the ideal Pre-K-12 schools (public and private). Growing up, I was always labeled the class “troublemaker.” It wasn't until I repeated my senior year of high school and working more than 30 hours a week at Chuck E Cheese, that I finally realized the importance of education and how it could improve my life. After graduation, I attended community college where I struggled, but persevered. I went on to graduate, with honors, from Arizona State University, and joined Teach for America. As a first year teacher, I was passionate about helping my students, especially the “troublemakers.” I could see myself in them: they were smart children who were bored and needed to be engaged in the material in ways that their current school was unable to offer. For one of these “troublemakers,” I recommended his mother transfer him to a different school because I knew that their teaching style was aligned with his learning style. At his new school the former “troublemaker” excelled and became a star student. After several years teaching, I transitioned to administration as a Marketing Director. I then worked with a national consultant company focused on student recruitment for both public and charter schools, and then formed my own consulting company. After almost a decade in the education industry, having worked with over 60 public and charter schools nationally, I keep seeing the same problem: students whose educations are suffering because they are not being taught in a manner that works best for them. It is this heartbreaking narrative, coupled with my personal education experiences, that compelled me to start Schola, Inc.
