Rolayan, , Sierra Leone / Agriculture

Sampa's Survivors Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to pay for improved seed, organic inputs and tractor rental which will allow these farmers to escape subsistence by farming a larger area with a higher yield.

Sampa's Survivors Group's story

Sampa K (first from right) is an outstanding master farmer in Rolayan who offers other women advice on farming, is raising a family of three and is a lead member of a local agricultural group called SAP. Like many farmers in Rolayan she lost years of work during the Ebola crisis which devastated her community economically. Sampa also lost family members to the Ebola crisis and has dedicated herself to helping other survivors recover. All members of her survivors group suffered greatly during the crisis and are now trapped in a cycle of subsistence and take extremely high-interest loans for poor quality inputs during planting time. A low interest KIVA loan will therefore enable this group of determined women to get beat the cycle of subsistence and get and back in business.
