You have in front of you a group from the "caisse communautaire" presenting an excerpt of it's businesses. The head of the group is holding the horns of the sheep in the photo. Her name is Atta. She is 44 years old, married and the mother of nine children, five boys and four girls. They are all enrolled in school. She lives in Mali.
Atta is a breeder. She buys thin sheep to fatten them for several months and she resells them at the opportune moment. She has 18 years experience, just in this business. She is requesting a loan from the IMF and she is aware of the required conditions for her. She would like to buy a lot of sheep, fatten them and sell them. She buys and sells at the local markets with a profit. She is succeeding getting out of difficulties and paying the school fees of her children with the profit. In the future she would like to have a bigger loan and to buy more sheep to be able to have a lot of profit and to ease the miserable living conditions of her family.
