Maya Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy fabric at the wholesale level as well as cones of thread.

Maya Group's story

Nine Maya Kaqchikel ladies participate in the monthly meetings of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Maya “ in Quetzaltenango. On their second loan with Kiva, the women use the loans to invest in their textile businesses (blouses, shirts, pants, aprons). The monthly educational trainings, part of the ‘Microcredit Plus” program of loans and education, helps them with their businesses (planning, budgeting, investing, savings), their families (hygiene, nutrition, health) and themselves (self esteem, empowerment). Since they have little or no formal education, these trainings are vital to their success.

Cruz, a 42-year-old mother of three children (11-17), has three years of formal education. She realizes how important a good education is and works hard to send her children to school because education is not free in Guatemala. Her children are enrolled in the 3rd, 7th & 9th grades. Cruz is requesting a loan to buy fabric at the wholesale level as well as cones of thread. She will be able to expand her production. increase supplies to her customers andcreate more income.

Kiva investors are highly appreciated by Cruz and her friends for supplying capital for their much needed loans. Thank you so very much for lending a helping hand to Cruz and her friends in the “Maya“ Trust Bank. You are playing a vital role in empowering women to to create pathways out of poverty!!
