Teese Group's story

Thirty-nine-year-old Evelyn was born and raised in a very remote area, about 110 km. from the commercial city of Harare. Her parents could not afford her education, and because of that, she had to drop out of primary school at a young age.

Economic opportunities were few and far from her home village, and she spent many years living idle at home with her parents. She eventually got married to her long time sweetheart, and they have three children together, living a hand-to-mouth existence.

Evelyn’s fortunes began to turn when her brother gave her enough to start a small business of selling firewood. Her earnings were very modest, but, little by little, she started saving money, and her tiny business started to grow. Over time, she graduated to selling fruit and vegetables from her home.

A year later, Evelyn was introduced to Thrive Microfinance by her friends. She invested her first loan into improving her businesses as she also started a plastics selling business. She used her loan to restock fruit and vegetables.
