I am a mother of three living in Pittsburgh, PA educated in cultural anthropology and social work. I didn't expect to be a business owner. I love gardening, plants, and creating beautiful things; it was a way to decompress from the stresses that a job in social work can create. I was in my happy place when I was among plants, creating pretty things, but I didn't think it could make me money. I went out on a limb, made some terrariums, and entered my first craft show. The support and encouragement was overwhelming and it gave me the confidence to pursue what really made me happy. I pushed the business forward with a drive and motivation that I hadn't seen in myself for a long time. I began to believe in myself and my abilities to create and run a successful business. I didn't hold the elusive entrepreneur on this unreachable pedestal anymore; I accepted that I could be the entrepreneur and that entrepreneurs are just regular people that bring ideas to life. So now I have a boutique plant shop in the city and a flower farm. Eventually I would love a bigger space that allows for people to sit, decompress, and connect . I'd also like to grow flowers by the shop and have a free cutting garden for people in the neighborhood. I love the community I'm in. I love talking to people waiting for the bus outside the shop, listening to people's stories about their grandmother's giant philodendron, and helping people choose the perfect plant for their baby's nursery. I've come to see that we all have some connection to plants, and having this shop brings all kinds of people together. Everyday I feel like I'm living on Sesame Street, and I love that feeling.
