A loan helped to purchase improved farm inputs that will increase his farm yield.

Joshua's story

Joshua, who resides in Dogon Fako village, is a Babban Gona maize farmer who manages a 1-hectare maize farm, through which he supports his family.

Despite working for nine hours on his farm each day, he was only able to eat one meal a day. However, this changed when he became a Babban Gona member. Now he will, because of this loan, be provided with higher yielding seeds that are locally adapted, and are widely accepted in his local community. He will also have the recommended pesticides and fertilizers based on the results of his field assessment. This will enable him to optimize his yield, where he can attain yields of up to 3.8 metric tonnes per hectare; 2 times the national average in Nigeria. This will not only increase his income earnings 2.8 times the national average but also ensures that Joshua never goes hungry again.

Reflecting on Joshua’s greatest memory as a Babban Gona farmer, a smile lights up his face as he remembers gaining better yields. Joshua is confident that with Babban Gona, his future is secured and he will have many more great memories and amazing accomplishments.
