Makel's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase better farm inputs, which will increase his farm yield.

Makel's story

Makel resides in Hayin Gada village. He is a Babban Gona maize farmer who manages a 0.7-hectare maize farm, through which he supports his family.

Luckily, as a Babban Gona member and as a result of this loan, Makel will receive higher yielding seeds that are locally adapted and widely accepted in his local community. He will also receive pesticides and fertilizers that are recommended for his fields, based on the results of his field assessment. This investment will enable him to optimize his yields and attain yields of up to 3.8 metric tonnes per hectare, which is twice the national average in Nigeria. This will not only increase his income to up to 2.8 times the national average but also ensure that he can continue to provide for his family.

Makel will use the income generated from this season's maize sales to pay his children's school fees and buy more farmland. Reflecting on his greatest memory as a Babban Gona farmer, a smile lights up his face as he remembers sending his children to better schools. Makel is confident that, with Babban Gona, his future is secure and he will have many more great memories and amazing accomplishments.
