Power (Macheke) Group's story

Although the number of manufacturing jobs in Zimbabwe has deteriorated, the number of retail jobs has risen.

Beauty is a 35-year-old lady staying at Macheke; she has a tuck-shop and hardware business. She was trained in retail business by her husband who used to work in a supermarket. Her husband stopped working in 2009 and they started this business as a family to earn a living.

She wakes up every morning to restock for her business. At the same time, her husband will be busy selling products to early customers. Most people demand bread in the morning for breakfast. It will be their duty to feed the community early in the morning and that is the reason why she separates chores with her husband. During the day her husband spends the day at the hardware store.

They have three children who are going to school and having the two businesses as the only source of income; Beauty wishes to build her own building for the hardware as way of reducing the business costs.

Power is the name of the group she formed to join Thrive Microfinance. With the knowledge she gained from her husband, it has added more flesh and now they can plan well and market their products better to surpass the competition. With the help of Thrive, her business has grown and the proceeds have helped her extend her house.
