Alicia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped fund the purchase of a required fire system, fencing, and covers initial lease expenses to expand my childcare business.
I grew up in Mt. Gilead, NC, the youngest of five children, with 19 years separating me from the second youngest. When I was born, all my siblings had already moved away and started their own families. I lived with my mom until she passed away when I was 13. Without directly teaching me, she showed me the importance of building a brand and the value of creating sustainable relationships. She was the lady in town who everyone knew. She sold chicken, fish, sandwiches, chips, candy, sodas and more, straight from our kitchen. She was also a licensed beautician and styled hair at home. Everyone always had something good to say about my mother. They respected her because of the way she showed respect to others. She branded herself as a respectable female business owner and as a result, formed unforgettable relationships in our community. She made me start a summer tutoring service when I was 11, with 4 students whose parents paid me $25 each week. I was responsible for educating others while providing extra income for us. She is directly responsible for my love of learning and my heart for helping people. I believe I chose early education as my profession because she pushed me to pour my gift into others who may not have understood the same way I did. This is exactly what I do now. I pour all the knowledge I have into my little dreamers so that they can discover new things and view their world in a new way. By building inclusive relationships with the parents of my children, I purpose to make their education fun and exciting while equipping them with the tools they need to begin kindergarten. I believe I’m building bright futures one block at a time.
