A loan helped create jobs for women in recovery to operate the business themselves.
I grew up in rural Minnesota surrounded by nature, faith, and a concern for broken people in the world. My family had intellectual and practical “smarts” and looked at the whole picture, figuring out how seemingly disparate things could be brought together in creative ways to make a difference in the world. I am older now, and maybe a little tired, but still passionate about the dream – for the Coffee Connection/Project Empower to become a stable organization run by our target population (women in recovery from addiction). The dream is to offer a lasting benefit to our community: saving lives, helping women become self-sufficient with healthy families, and supporting them in living into their full and authentic potential. And I dream of offering a non-hierarchical, healing paradigm to be used anywhere in the world empowering people to use their energy to help heal the world. The Coffee Connection/Project Empower epitomizes my entrepreneurial spirit—my desire to build a healthy, productive community with social justice, legal, economic, and environmental impact that empowers the disempowered and midwives them into their own unique and powerful selves. This is the life work that I began when I was five (collecting traumatized animals) and which I have studied and practiced throughout my life in whatever context I found myself. The learnings along the way are enormous and I want not one bit of that to be wasted.
