A loan helped to buy corn and gas for her tortilla-making business.

Fuente De Union Group's story

Huehuetenango is a mountainous state in Guatemala’s northwestern corner that borders Mexico. It is the home of the Trust Bank “Fuente de Union,” made up of seven women. They work hard to achieve stable and reputable businesses. The women sell watches and products from catalogs. They also have small restaurants, sell street food, and sell tortillas.

They are seeking their third loan from Kiva. They want to increase their capital in order to grow their businesses and be successful.

Damaris is 24. She studied until eighth grade. She lives with her husband and two beautiful children of 1 and 4. She is the secretary of the Trust Bank. She makes and sells tortillas all day long. She is seeking a loan to buy corn and gas for her business.

Low interest, monthly payments, and monthly training are some of the benefits the women receive from the "Microcredit Plus" program from Friendship Bridge. Some of the topics at the monthly trainings include budgeting, entrepreneurship, women’s health issues, preventative health, and civil rights. Friendship Bridge provides this program to over 22,000 women.

Thanks go to people from all over the world who lend in Kiva so that women can have more opportunities for self-development and improving conditions for themselves and their families.
