Esther's story

TThis is 43-year-old Esther. She is a widow with six children ranging in age from 10 through 25. Esther went to school up to 3rd grade. Four of her children are in school and they live at home. Esther runs a business where she sells soap, garri, sugar, candy, biscuits, cream, grease and other items. She stated that her business is her only source of income. Being the only surviving parent, Esther sells from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm each day to meet their daily needs. She has been operating this business for 15 years.

To add to the business, she applied for a loan with BRAC Liberia. The loan will be used to buy more soap, garri, sugar, candy, biscuits, cream, grease and other items to sell and increase her income. She received financial help from her late husband to start her business and learned the trade from her grandmother. She describes herself as a hardworking business woman. Esther says when discussing her business that she feels so proud because it helps bring in support on a daily basic and she has lot of customers.

In the future, she would like to build houses and send her children to a better school. She says a big thanks to all funders.
