A loan helped to buy fish and cases and to maintain a motorcycle.

Carmen Estelvina's story

The main good produced and sold in Guale parish in the Jipijapa province is rice. The traditional dishes here are rice with vegetable stew with roasted meat, corn tortillas, fish balls, oven-coked beef and pork, and tamale.

Carmen is 46 years old. She has a partner and four children, three of whom are now independent adults. The youngest is 8 years old and attends school. Carmen's partner is a fish trader. The family lives in a house that they own.

Carmen is taking out this loan to help her husband, who makes a living buying and selling fish. He has a motorcycle for travelling to various places such as Guale, Pedro Carbo, Jerusalen, and more. He works three to four times per week, transporting merchandise in boxes that he ties to the motorcycle for travelling from 7am to noon, or later. Carmen's husband has had this business for around ten years.

This loan will be used to buy fish and cases and to maintain the motorcycle.

Carmen has been part of this loan group for ten cycles and she likes it as she can pay every two weeks and interest rates are low.

Carmen's dream is to open a shop in her house.
