Randi's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped a homeless single mother to launch her own hair salon.

Randi's story

While my early childhood was relatively normal, my personal story is one of experience, strength and hope. I was born in California on an Air Force Base. My Mom and I moved to Massachusetts when I was 3 years old. I grew up in a mid-to-upper class town in Massachusetts. To this day, I don't know much about my biological father. My mom re-married when I was 12 and my life was never the same. Despite the abuse I suffered as a young girl and woman, I've always had a passion for hairdressing and styling. Including my time studying hairdressing in technical vocational high school, I've now been in the industry for 18 years! Hairdressing and the beauty industry has been my passion, my outlet, and my love. I've always had a dream of owning my own salon and here I am!! It is important to me that all of my supporters also know that I have been chronically homeless for five years. I have the flexibility to be with my daughter, who is now six years old and living with my mom in a Boston suburb, but I am still living in a shelter outside of Boston. I've always been responsible with my money, but have struggled to accumulate enough to live in my own home, especially given the high cost of living in Boston. I've been cutting hair for many years privately in my client's homes and now, with this loan, I have my own space to thrive and run my salon business called Blondie's Roots. I am taking on this new chapter in my life with vigor and enthusiasm and am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to build a business and improve all facets of my life.
