Thomson's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to increase his float in order to increase the business income which helps him pay his siblings' school fees.

Thomson's story

Young Thomson is a man with great responsibilities. He is the second eldest of his 6 siblings. Thomson’s father is a security guard while his mom takes care of the household. Due to low funds, his parents are unable to look after some of his siblings so three of them live with him and he pays school fees for them as well. With only a secondary school certificate, Thomson found it very difficult to find employment. He found an opportunity to become an entrepreneur through Zoona.

Since opening his first outlet, Thomson’s customer base has grown. This is due to the high demand for mobile transactions as there is minimal financial access in most of Malawi. Thomson is providing his customers a secure and cost-effective means of transferring cash from one hand to another. With this Kiva loan, Thomson would like to boost his business. He will use the loan to increase his float so he can serve more customers. The extra income generated from these transactions will help him with tuition fees for his siblings and their day to day expenses.

Thomson is very focused on educating his younger brother and sisters as he believes that is the best foundation one can have. With the support of Kiva lenders, Thomson will help his siblings thus creating better future opportunities for them to succeed in life.
