San Pablo Group's story

The Guatemalan state of Chimaltenango is in the Central Highlands where there are beautiful farming landscapes. Seven women with dreams of business success have organized the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "San Pablo" there. They are in their 1st loan cycle with KIVA & are looking forward to having funds to grow their small businesses selling traditional prepared foods like tamales, or raising pigs, or having convenience stores. María is a member who is 56 years old & is the mother of 4 children (22-36 years). She was only able to finish the 3rd grade, so she is pleased her children finished the 6th through 9th grades. María is a hard worker who has 2 small businesses - a convenience store & raising farm animals. She is requesting a loan to invest in more inventory for her store - sugar, salt, beans, milk, eggs & pasta. She also plans to buy 2 pigs. María & her friends dream of having more prosperous businesses. They will be able to see those dreams come true when they participate in the monthly "Microcredit Plus" (education +loans) program. Each month a beneficial topic from 4 main areas: family, health, women & business will be addressed. Their businesses will prosper when they learn budgeting, saving & investing skills. Thank you KIVA investors for providing the financial support that helps the women of "San Pablo" grow their businesses & move themselves, along with their families out of poverty!
