Gabriela's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped me take my business to the next level by purchasing a commercial refrigerator to store my cakes.

Gabriela's story

My name is Gabby and I am originally from Michoacan, Mexico. I grew up in a working class family. I have two brothers and five sisters. My Mom stayed at home and raised the family while my Dad worked in construction building homes for people in the community. Times were tough for our family like it is for most working class families in Mexico and the United States. Sometimes Mom washed clothes for the neighbors or sold food in the streets when we needed extra income to support the family. When I was 17 I emigrated to the United States and lived with my brother in San Jose where I lived for 10 years. I worked in retail for a number of years, I washed dishes, I was a housekeeper, I did all the traditional immigrant jobs from cleaning houses to working in restaurants and hotels. I started raising a family in my early 20's while working a variety of jobs to support my family. I moved to Hayward seven years ago and after my youngest children entered school I began building my part-time cake business into a full time business.
