Lý N. Thị is a 57-year-old woman living in the town of Thanh Hóa. Lý is the group leader of a six-member group loan offered by Thanh Hoa Fund for Poor Women. While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they all are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. The official name of this borrowing group is 26 Nam Ngạn (17.09.26). Lý is married and has three adult children. To making a living, Lý works in a family member's business running a food stall. The main source of income for the business comes primarily from selling assorted food and snacks in the local community. Lý has been in this business for over two years and earns approximately 1.500.000 VND a month from these activities. In 2008, Lý joined Thanh Hoa Fund for Poor Women to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Lý has successfully repaid a previous loan of 1.963.500 VND from Thanh Hoa Fund for Poor Women. This previous loan was used to invest in expanding the business.
