Bella Vista Sumpango Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy seeds, bamboo, fertilizer and insecticides.

Bella Vista Sumpango Group's story

The state of Sacatepéquez is famous for the kite festival celebrating the Days of the Dead, the first two days in November. It takes months for these colorful kites to be made and it is thought that they carry messages to those who have departed their earthly lives. In this area, 8 ladies have formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Bella Vista Sumpango”. The women are beginning their 2nd loan cycle with KIVA.

Sandra, a married 28-year old mother of 2 children (aged
10 and 11 ), is a member of the group. She is pleased that her children are in school. Sandra is a farmer growing squash, string beans, peas & tomatoes. She is requesting a loan to buy seeds, bamboo, fertilizer and insecticides so that her harvest can be of high quality and sold for a good price. Sandra benefits from the monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program (loans + education) of Friendship Bridge. This is especially important to her since she has no formal education. Topics range from women, health, & family to effective business practices.

In providing these loans, KIVA lenders play an important role in the lives of Sandra & her friends. Thank you, KIVA lenders, for lending a helping hand to these women who are determined to empower themselves and eliminate poverty!
