Women Against Poverty Group's story

Greetings from members of the "Women Against Poverty" Group from Kabala City. Kabala is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Sierra Leone. It is an agricultural center and lies in the far north of Sierra Leone, with close proximity to Kono District and the international border with Guinea.

These are local entrepreneurs whom have come to SMT and Kiva lenders to request a loan for the very first time. They are asking for 800,000.00 SLL (Sierra Leonean Leones) for each member of the group.

The group members work tirelessly to put food on the table for their family and friends, they sell granite stone, which they break themselves. The manufacturing process is done manually with physical labor. With this loan, they will pay others to help in the breaking of the granite stones, which they will then sell at retail prices to construction workers.

Namisa is the featured leader of this group of entrepreneurs. She was born 52 years ago, but yet is still strong to carry on with a business she has been doing for the past ten years, and it is not just any business, but a physically challenging one. With her share of this loan, she will pay friends to help her break more stone to add to her current inventory.
