Kyon La Tar – 1 (A) Village Group's story

Kyon La Tar – 1 (A) Village Group is located in Kungyangon Township, in the Delta region of Myanmar. There are five loan customers in this group, Khin, Than, Kyi, Htay, and San. Kyon La Tar village has over two hundred villagers who generally earn their living through farming, raising livestock, and fisheries.

Included in the picture, Than (first from the left), is 47 years old. She is blessed with a son, who is still in school, and a daughter, who is already independent. All of the family members work very hard to jointly earn enough money for the family. Than’s spouse farms on five acres of land where he grows rice. In addition to the paddy field, they also grow coconuts and thatch plants on another two acres of land.

To fulfill the needs of her children's education, Than started raising ducks three years ago. This generates daily income, rather than the periodic income of the paddy field. These days, Than is busy most of the time tending to her 100 ducks, as well as fulfilling her household chores. As feeding is very important for egg production, Than has to concentrate on providing her ducks with well nourished food.

She is happy to take this loan, as she no longer needs to worry about buying enough duck feed for her little duck farm. Like Than, her spouse is a very hard worker. In his spare time he works as a motor rickshaw driver, earning some extra money for the family and their savings.
